Help support a foster carer
By donating $50 you can help provide specialist training and support to foster families who are committed to caring for traumatised children. The support the Australian Childhood Foundation provides can mean the difference between a child remaining with a family and finding some stability in their life or not. When a child finds stability and begins to feel understood they can begin to recover the childhood that has been taken from them by abuse and trauma.
The role of being a foster carer can be incredibly challenging and difficult. Without a clear understanding of the impact of abuse and neglect on children, many foster carers who enter these relationships often feel overwhelmed and unsupported while trying to deal with these children and their painful experiences. This can have a negative impact on both the carers and the children.
The work we do at the Australian Childhood Foundation to support foster carers empowers them to care and nuture these children, helping them to recover from their trauma. In fact, we have been able to ensure many children remain with their carers and begin new lives free from abuse and neglect.
