Stefan Dennis and Pippa Black from Neighbours have joined a stellar group of Aussie celebrities for the Australian Childhood Foundation’s annual Childhood Hero Day on Thursday 14 June 2007.
The Australian Childhood Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that believes all children deserve a childhood free from the trauma of abuse, neglect and family violence.
The Childhood Hero Appeal celebrates the fun, innocence and importance of childhood and the everyday heroes who make a world of difference to children’s lives by making them feel special, loved and cared for.
“To me, a hero is two things,” says Dennis, “It’s somebody you look up to and somebody who makes you feel safe.”
Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson on Network Ten’s Neighbours, has many heroes but says that Robert de Niro and his Uncle John top the list.
“Everyone has a cool relative to look up to when they’re a kid. Mine was my Uncle John. John was old enough to look out for us kids, but still young enough to be cool: he taught us magic tricks and fun games.”
Now with two young children himself, Dennis believes that everyday heroes are people like our Firemen, Police, Paramedics and Nurses who work with minimal thanks or financial reward.
But ask Stefan’s five-year-old son Cameron and he’ll tell you his Dad is his number one hero.
Childhood Hero Day aims to raise money for the Australian Childhood Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that works in a number of ways to prevent child abuse.
All money raised will go towards:
All Australians can become a Childhood Hero by purchasing a Childhood Hero cape or badge, or by making a donation to support the work of the Australian Childhood Foundation and help in the fight against child abuse by visiting www.childhoodhero.com.au, or calling 1800 176 453 to make a donation.
