Research and Policy Centre

The Australian Childhood Foundation has a commitment to undertaking national research which can improve the lives and welfare of all Australian children.

For this reason, the Foundation has established Child Abuse Prevention Research Australia as a joint initiative with the School of Primary Health Care, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University.

The focus of the research undertaken by the Australian Childhood Foundation and Monash University provides the basis for:

  • better supporting parents and families to raise happy and confident children;
  • understanding the causes and consequences of abuse and violence on children, families and the community;
  • developing new counselling programs that help children recover from the trauma associated with abuse and family violence;
  • advocating for reform to national and state government policies to enhance the safety and well-being of children in Australia;
  • informing the creation of evidence based community and professional education programs about child development, parenting support and child protection
