Childhood Hero Dress Up Day
Local heroes, John McCarthy, Collingwood Football Club, Renae Hallinan, Vixens Netball Club and students from McKinnon Primary School.
To celebrate Childhood Hero Day on 23 June, we invited primary students throughout Australia to dress up as their hero. This could be a sporting identity, family member, community member, eg. policeman, fireman, or a superhero.
To participate, students brought along a $2.00 coin. Fifty per cent of all funds raised is retained by the school and 50 per cent comes to to the Australian Childhood Foundation. The school that raises the most money will win Fujifilm’s newly released FinePix HS10 digital camera.
We will be announcing the winner shortly!
We added some new exciting elements to this year’s Childhood Hero Dress Up Day.
To raise even more funds for your school and the Foundation, we created the ability to set up your own fundraising pages via www.everydayhero.com.au/event/ACF_schools2010.
The boy who raises the most funds will win a Collingwood Inner Sanctum Experience. This will include:
o Four reserved seats to a Collingwood Football Club home match
o Two change-room passes
o An opportunity to hold up the banner before the game
The girl who raises the most funds will win a Vixens Inner Sanctum Experience. This will include:
o Two tickets to a 2011 Vixens Netball Team match
o A pre game address by a Vixens coach
o A tour of the club rooms and an opportunity to meet the players after the game
Funds must be received by 16th July 2010 to be eligible to win.
The Smooze Story
We are very excited about our association with a fantastic organisation that distributes healthy snacks for children. Health Attack recently launched its range of Smooze products in Australia and they are literally running off the shelves.
Smooze is a delicious and nutritious frozen treat made from freshly pressed coconut milk, real fruit juices, and fruit purees. Children absolutely love it, and best of all, it is good for them.
Smooze offered every school that participated in Childhood Hero Dress Up Day a FREE sample for every child to take home in Term 3. If you are interested in more information on Smooze go to www.smooze.com.au.
Class Activities
Show and Tell
Childhood Hero Day is a great opportunity for students to share with classmates a story about the heroes in their lives. They could also bring along an item that represents a special relationship or moment that has touched them in a positive way.
Art
For schools who exhibit their student body’s artwork each year, or just as a class exercise, Childhood Hero Day provides a great theme for students to draw, paint, make an item, or create a comic strip that represents their childhood hero.
Writing and Expression
Story-telling is a creative and engaging way for students to develop their writing skills. Leading up to Childhood Hero Day, students can write a poem or a story about their childhood hero.
Childhood Hero Schools Program
The Australian Childhood Foundation’s Childhood Hero Schools Program is a critical component of our Become a Childhood Hero Program. We believe every child needs a hero to make them feel special, loved and cared for. Our program gives us all an opportunity to celebrate the fun, innocence and importance of childhood, and to raise funds to provide specialist counselling to children to help them recover from the trauma of abuse, family violence and neglect.
